The Felpham & Middleton Country Dance Club

Members often go together to other local events such as Playford Balls. For special occasions we get dressed up in the finest of style!

We give occasional displays, usually with a "joining in session" at the end. Children from a local group may also join us for a few of the dances.

The Chichester Mayfest was our first opportunity to 'dance out' in 2009. We threedled, clashed and heyed our way through the Flamborough Sword Dance, and also danced Newcastle and Picking up Stitches. 2009 also marked the first 'band' night for many years. One of our members had a Regency birthday party which a number of us attended wearing something like the correct attire.

2008 was the 75th Anniversary Year of the Felpham & Middleton Country Dance Club. A celebratory dance was held at Felpham Memorial Hall, which was well attended by dancers from the region. Our members attended the last Chichester Playford Evening and some joined dancers from other clubs to dance at the historic Crossways Farm in Abinger Hammer. We also managed to give our own interpretation of the Flamborough Sword Dance to interested spectators in Middleton.

The club made its television debut in August 2007 for GMTV as can be seen in the third line of photos below. As our invitation was at very short notice (during the summer break) only four members of the club were available. It was unbelievably cold for an August morning, even if it was 6.30am! We were given 3 minutes to teach a dance to four holidaymakers for a competition.
