The traditional English folk dances of this country are not only
beautiful to watch but also fun to perform. That is why people meet week after week, year after year, to learn the steps
of Cherrystones, Indian Queen, Sun Assembly and many more, enjoying them as much as generations of their forebears.
Most of the dances danced at the club are Playford style with the occasional contra or Scottish interlude as a variation.
Beginners are given a warm welcome and plenty of help. All the dances are 'called' (that is the sequence of steps are
called out during the dance).
The Felpham and Middleton Country Dance Club was founded in 1933 and has many enthusiastic
members. We are the oldest club in West Sussex - in fact the oldest in Southern England. It is a very friendly and fun-loving club.
We have some quaint customs, like the weekly 20p raffle (not compulsory), and a predilection for fancy dress parties and Bucks Fizz (not every week
- just on special occasions!). The club is run by a committee and, although it is very informal, it has an AGM each year.
The Felpham & Middleton Country Dance Club is an affiliated group of the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS)
